The finish is very striated/randomly & variably patterned, overall a medium to dark finish- such a rich look. I'm told the set is a pecan finish, from ~1970's (unsure?), at which time the original purchase price was in excess of $10K. It's incredibly heavy, solid wood, with breathtakingly beautiful craftsmanship construction & a finish such as I have never seen before. I'm thrilled beyond words to have just recently acquired the following Drexel Woodbriar bdrm set: Triple Dresser w/ 2 mirrors (on rollers/wheels), a huge Armoire, 2 Bed tables (shallow drawer on top, & cabinetry doors enclosing ample storage area underneath the single drawer), & a F/Q headboard, w/ rattan or cane weaving in square shapes, in between the solid wood pecan finished slats.
